labor day weekend

so we just hung out at the cabin, got some camp fire business handled and went on a field trip to the santa's village museum in lake arrowhead. i never went to santa's village unfortunately, chris went a few times, so lucky! so jealous! anyways, there is a small museum in arrowhead and the girls were there taking pictures with santa (emily whispered to me that santa's beard was real! wink wink! too cute) and now we are back home in the smokey air and heat, trying to get ready for the new school year to kick in. hoping i can get my work life in order, cross your fingers for me, lots of drama but hoping to work it all out.

summer zooms by

everyone says summer is passing fast, but seriously, i feel like i am in one of those movies with a zillion cameos flashing on the screen as life skips from one thing to the next. even at the cabin, where time slows down some, i felt the rush. i wish i could just wake up to nothing on the schedule, day after day but i guess thats retirement and i am no where near that. besides i dont know how to turn of my ever planning mind, oh well! the garden is in full swing, bursting with tomatoes:

the girls still complain about visiting the garden, but picking veggies and finding bugs still entertains them enough to get some chores done. i am finally able to get emily to try a few new fruits and vegetables (watermelon has been the latest attempt with some success) a kid who doesnt like watermelon??? crazy! as much crap as i ate growing up, fruit was always a treat. i remember eating carrot sticks straight from the fridge, neither of my kids will do that. but i am working on it! a few cabin photos, i am getting lazy with the photo taking. i am thinking of getting a new camera... we took the truck back behind our cabin and drove some of the off road trails. a jeep would be awesome! but a car payment would suck! what to do? since it is fire season again, we had a fix it ticket to clean up around our house. a new address sign was needed so i knocked this out, turned out ok but i know where a to get a great sign! someday. happy tuesday!

4th of july recovery

a fun three days off

heading over to the fourth of july parade at green valley lake, emily has her water bottle ready (don't mind the chunks of roof falling off, been like that for a few years now!) thats a lot of red white and blue! the kids love cotton candy, the sugar high went on for quite awhile... work starts back up today, still feeling lazy. this summer sure is flying by fast! emily heads off to camp wintaka in a few weeks, then we are back to colorado with summer almost over when we return. how did that happen? happy monday!

childrens forest, arrowbear real true blue german made (from the artisan tour at green valley lake) up at keller peake, a fire look out tower marathon of movies: this and this... plus some baking thanks to this book... a busy work week ahead and then time off to gut out the garage and plan the wetlands rummage sale. anyone in the area, let me know if you want to donate your stuff. thanks!!

gvl birthday bash

this was the easiest birthday "party" i have every put together. maybe we should do this more often

so i was getting ready to take some pictures of the girls this morning when i stumbled on a whole disc of pictures from lazy j that i hadnt downloaded...hmmmm...looks like we will have a lazy j 3 post coming up because there were some good ones on it. how did i miss 200 some odd photos?? yikes! 

we are headed up to the snow for emily's birthday bash. we cheated this year on the party planning, just kidnaping a few school/camp fire friends and letting nature entertain them... plus a candle making friend is going to give us a lesson. lucky us! see you back here tomorrow!

snowed

hoping for more snow, this was icy and perfect for sledding

emily was so brave, she went to the tippy top and sledded down several times. one time (this photo is right after it happened) she banged up her finger and cried so much. poor baby, she is really tough so we knew it was bad) so far she is feeing better but we will do an xray tomorrow since daddy has "connections." hoping she wont have anything broken. baby austin, loves his block! liz reads to austin, everyone is very serious the sweet peas are coming in, so great straight off the vine! super fun weekend, hanging with the cousins, mine and chris' and hoping for more snow, more more more!
